Agnès Lajoie is the Assistant Commissioner of Patents and Director General, Patent Branch, since July 2011.
Agnès’ areas of responsibility include: leading the patent program delivery and related processes; directing the receipt and examination of patent applications, as well as the international application submitted under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT); leading changes including treaty implementation and regulatory updates, quality management system, patent practice, policy issues for international meetings; and building relationship with clients and stakeholders.
Prior to that, she was Chair of the Patent Appeal Board from May 2008 to June 2011. Agnès joined CIPO in 1984 as a patent examiner. She has worked in leadership roles in many positions within CIPO since then, including Division Chief for Patent Classification, Deputy Director for Patent Operations, Division Chief of the Electrical Division, and Deputy Director for Patent Examination.
Agnès holds a Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Université Laval and a certificate in administration from Université du Québec en Outaouais.
